1. Young Women's Christian Association (Y.W.C.A.) Young Women's Christian Association (Y.W.C.A.)Downtown SpartanburgThe Steedly Hospital was on the second floor. Dr. Benjamin B. Steedly built a private hospital in 1916 on East Main Street between Alabama Street and Oakland Avenue. The Y.W.C.A. took over the building in the 1920s. Dr. Steedly began to use the facilities of the new General Hospital. The Y.W.C.A. was later converted into apartments and the building was demolished in 1960.

This facility was a recreation center for 50 years, until a new center was constructed on South Pine Street in 1964.

This photo was made when he made a brief stop at the airport on the way to California. He joked and chatted with a crowd of about 100 people. Rogers also visited Spartanburg in October 1926, appearing at the Montgomery Theatre.
